“When we talk about visual effects in games, we normally mean particles. That’s what we’re using to create all of the cannon effects for example, like the different explosions. You want to give the player strong feelings when they’re playing the game… You should just feel like you’re really part of this beautiful wor

Below will challenge players with a mysterious, randomly-generated island where exploration, discovery, and survival are at the forefront of the experience. The game is said to offer a Dark Souls level of danger and intrigue with its combat, which by itself will continue to garner incredible attention until the game’s release later this y

The relative lack of gameplay shown compared to ways players can interact in basic ways was intentional, however. Rare would later state that the game is still mid-development on many gameplay systems, but that the team is so excited to show the game that everyone wants to show what’s reasonable. For example the island adventuring, the customization features, and most important perhaps — the loot, are still in-development systems. Those features will be shown as soon as they’re ready, as Rare intends to be as transparent as can be going forw

Today Rare delivered the fourth Sea of Thieves trailer in a series that has been dubbed “Short Hauls,” or short developer diaries that describe aspects of the game’s experience. Rare sees fit to design philosophy and goals in these Short Hauls, hoping to give potential players some perspective on what kind of game Sea of Thieves is shaping up to be . “Visual Effects” is the topic of this latest Short Haul trailer, or how Rare’s focus on the details will better create a true pirate advent

In terms of content mentioned in the post, the most interesting may come in the form several mentions of the Order of Souls quests. Order of Souls is one of the three announced factions for the game, alongside The Gold Hoarders and The Merchant Alliance. During the closed beta, the only faction available was the Gold Hoarders but fans could soon be off battling skeleton pirates with the Order of So

With the recent release of the Xbox One S, and the impending launch of Project Scorpio, Xbox fans have plenty to look forward to this year. Additionally, with Microsoft “very focused” on first-party titles , it seems Xbox is giving gamers plenty of reason to pay attent

Below is another highly-anticipated indie title , except this one comes from a small developer that has already garnered plenty of respect in the industry. Rare was a legendary developer back in the golden age of gaming. When the beloved company was perfectly partnered with Nintendo, the partnership went as well together as peanut butter and jelly and through 1994-2001 everything was fine and dandy until game development cost began to gradually increase and Nintendo decided not to provide the company with more capital nor did they buy up the remaining stake that was leftover, forcing the company to search for a potential buyer to stay in the game. In the end we all know that Microsoft purchased the company for $375 million and from that day on Rare was a first-party developer for Microsoft.

Noah: To think, the four of us were sailing around the ocean, looking for islands with treasure, avoiding rocks, all while other pirate crews were out there in the blue beyond just waiting to plunder us. The game doesn’t make traversing the most beautifully rendered ocean I’ve ever seen easy either: you need each crew member to be controlling a different part of the ship. Someone needs to steer, another needs to watch for land from the crow’s nest, someone can man the cannons, and someone has to patch up the inevitable holes in the s

With E3 coming up next month, there will undoubtedly be many more Xbox exclusive titles revealed. As mentioned above, Xbox has committed to offering plenty of first-party games, which means Xbox fans have a lot to look forward to both now and in the coming ye

The reason this change in creative directors is such a big deal is because the company we once fell in love with as a whole no longer existed at this point in time. Everyone who had worked on the classic smash hits such as Banjo-Kazooie, Jet Force Gemini, Donkey Kong Country and many, many others throughout their seven years with Nintendo had left the company and were replaced by a whole new group. Rare, as it stands today, has no members of the original creative team behind their ingenious games left on their roster. Much like when Star Wars was bought by Disney, a whole new creative team is now behind those films; George Lucas and his new ideas have been tossed out never to be heard from again. Meaning that Rare as we knew it is truly dead.
