Not to be outdone by Microsoft, Sony made their huge announcement only four days after the Xbox 360 was revealed. It all went down at E3 2005 when Sony announced plans for their latest system, the PlayStation 3. During the conference, the console was shown with a boomerang controller which was later modified. There was no actual gameplay footage of its titles but pre-rendered videos of Final Fantasy VII and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The prototype of the system was priced between $500 and $600 USD. More information and demos were revealed months later at the Tokyo Game Show. PlayStation 3 didn’t launch for another year, but when it did, every single gamer automatically picked sides between the seventh generation console war.
You may not recognize the name Katsuya Eguchi, but without him video games wouldn’t be as they are today. The man has been helping Nintendo release hit after hit since 1988. Katsuya began working for the company two years earlier as a promotional artist. Afterwards, he was a member of the design team for hits like Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World and Yoshi’s Story. He made his directorial debut with Star Fox and has been the director and producer for additional big name titles. Katsuya’s recent projects include Nintendo Land and Animal Crossing: New Leaf. He is the senior producer of Software Development Group No. 2 in the Nintendo Entertainment Analysis and Development division. They are in charge of new Animal Crossing and Wii games featuring Mii characters. Thanks to the guidance of Katsuya Eguchi, Nintendo has enjoyed much success and much more to come.
It’s no secret that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be Rockstar’s most ambitious open-world game yet, with a map that is as massive as it is rich with characters, places and things to do. RDR2 is promising a living world and from the previews of said game it looks like RDR2 is going to deliver just that. Immersing ones’ self in the boots of Arthur Morgan (protagonist) would be a missed opportunity for feeling that immersion on an entirely different level. Things look a lot different when their happening through our eyes. While third person offers certain game vantages it can take away from the feeling of actually being whatever character.
Sandbox games are popular these days to the degree that the style is now becoming an industry norm. Whether it’s Grand Theft Auto V or the recently released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, having an open world to explore is becoming more traditional with every new release. But there is one sandbox game that hasn’t been discussed in a long time and that game is Red Dead Redemption. The Western game not only had beautiful environments, but was filled with tremendous gameplay elements. The game also included one of the most well crafted narratives the industry had seen at the time. Looking back, Red Dead Redemption was lightning in a bottle and had a uniqueness about it that still stands even five years after its launch.
Playing RDR2 in first-person could mean a world of difference for the very world. As mentioned, the west of Red Dead Redemption 2 is massive and seeing some of the vistas that litter every corner of this game are sure to be breathtaking. It’s that feeling of going on a good hike only to come up over whatever ridge and be swept away by what lays just over that horizon line. The world of RDR2 looks to be vastly versatile with mountains, plains, swamps and deserts. Traveling through the world of RDR2 in first-person is sure to be even more breathtaking than having to watch the butt-end of a horse as it poops. Not that there is anything wrong with the level of detail Rockstar is going for, but at least you won’t have to watch your horse do the business. Kidding aside, again, like GTAV when brought to first-person there was something much more tangible present in making ones’ way through the world. Being on the ground level of it all while interacting with all of it feels quite different than traveling through that same world in third-person.
There’s trouble in the Old West as Rockstar games’ big update for Red Dead Online _ has players running for the hills. Hoping to cash in on the hype surrounding _Grand Theft Auto Online , the formula hasn’t worked quite so well in the dusty plains of the American des
Rockstar has attempted (and succeeded) to stop griefing players to a degree. Non-griefing players will now be invisible to anyone more than 150 meters away, while griefers will be more visible on the map by having a bounty put on their head. However, even this has its critics as others point out the addition of bounties for relatively minor incide
Whether wanting to play in third-person as RDR2 is presented or taking the plunge and playing entirely in first-person, Red Dead Redemption 2 is sure to be fun. It just might be more fun playing entirely through the eyes of Arthur. Obviously, one is not better than the other, but having the opportunity to experience the West with ones’ own eyes on the ground level of it all, with the amount of detail Rockstar has put in is sure to be a wildly different experience.
