Soulslike fans love unique challenges. One of the most impressive feats you can achieve in Dark Souls is playing through the entire series without taking a single hit , but that might not even be the hardest challenge out there. Someone once beat Dark Souls 3 using only Morse code. Another completed the original Dark Souls using 20 bananas as a controller. Twitch streamer Luality is famous for playing Dark Souls 3 on a Dance Dance Revolution dance pad. Last week I myself faced one of the greatest Soulslike challenges there is: playing Black Myth: Wukong for the first time in front of its developers. You think a deathless run is hard? Try dying to the first boss seven times while the makers of the game silently judge you.
Black Myth: Wukong was first seen nearly four years ago with a 13-minute pre-alpha gameplay video, and since then the game has maintained a steady course of popularity throughout development. Created by Chinese developer and publisher Game Science, Black Myth: Wukong is a narrative Soulsike RPG based loosely on a novel called Journey to the West , in which players take the role of a Monkey soldier inspired by Sun Wukong, or the Monkey King. As the “Destined One,” players will journey across vast landscapes inspired by Chinese mythology, wielding powerful weapons and magic as they battle through fierce enem
I’m not a big Souls player, but I did have a great time trying out Black Myth: Wukong. The two-hour demo I played took me through half a dozen boss encounters while introducing a variety of characters and all of the core progression and combat systems. Fans of the genre will find plenty of familiar ideas: campfires allow you to refill your health pots, purchase items, and craft armor upgrades, while also giving you a respawn point to come back to when you inevitably die. But it’s where Wukong breaks from genre traditions that make it truly stand out.
In an update shared online , developer Game Science shared the rationale behind such a decision along with information about how its physical copies will work. On the subject of the decision, Game Science had this to say:
Wukong’s combat is all about resource management. On top of your health, stamina, and charge meter, you also have a magic resource used for spells. The first one I learned was a time stop that could freeze enemies in place. The spell itself has a cooldown after use, but you also spend some mana every time you use it, which can only be refilled by visiting a campsite.

A year ago, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor made waves when its physical copy included the disclaimer “Download Required” , something that’s sadly become more common . The disc included only partially held the game’s file size, with a download needed to complete the rest. It was a major hit for game preservation purposes, and it looks like Black Myth: Wukong will suffer the same fate, at least in the interim.
After it was officially unveiled back in 2021, until this recent trailer, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers had somewhat fallen by the wayside, due to the increasing number of Soulslikes being released in quick succession. One such game is Black Myth Wukong , which releases in August. Featuring Soulslike mechanics, similarly fantastical boss fights, and steeped in Ancient Chinese history, Wukong will likely be compared to Wuchang , even though the art styles are quite different. Indeed, Wuchang ‘s tone and aesthetic seem more similar to the likes of Team Ninja’s critically acclaimed Nioh ser
Instead, a copy of the physical edition will have a download voucher inside the box, which players can then redeem online for the full game. That goes for both the standard “Deluxe Edition,” and the recently revealed “Collector’s Edition.” In other words, the physical edition is nothing more than a glorified drink coaster.
Both physical editions come with an activation code for the Digital Deluxe Edition of Black Myth Wukong Tips|Https://Blackmythwukongfans.Com/ Myth: Wukong (for purchases on JD.com, it will be a WeGame activation code; for overseas purchases, it will be a Steam activation code).
